Marina Vallarta Las Palmas I Local 3

Seasonal Rains, Dorado, Blue Marlin and Yellowfin Tuna!

After years, if you’ve been reading my articles, then you know what happened last week or even yesterday is no guarantee of what will happen tomorrow! But if this week is any indication of what is to come, then we’re going to have a great fishing season! With Black Marlin finally making an appearance, Yellowfin Tuna are right there with them. Now fishing this early in the season is always hard to call, but we have fish! If you’re thinking about coming to go fishing in Puerto Vallarta, world class fishing awaits you now.

Living Like A Local: Timeshare

So you did it, you’re the proud owner of a new Vacation Club Travel Package for the next 25 years, aka a “Timeshare”! Well welcome to Puerto Vallarta the land that Timeshare built. It’s “Time-Share-Landia” amigos from top to bottom. Most everything you see, taste, feel or hear has roots deep in the timeshare industry in Puerto Vallarta. I mean it’s an amazing thing, but it works very well, thank you very much.

Rollercoaster Fishing Continues, Great Conditions

It’s funny, but what goes up, must come down and sometimes goes sideways. That pretty much sums things up for this week. Things were good, bad and in between depending on where you chose for fishing grounds. Water temperatures take another tick up after being down. Bait is moving in and is a double edged thing. But most importantly people are coming back to Puerto Vallarta and that’s a good thing. Normally the fishing is lacking at this time of the year, but we’re doing alright with several new species showing up and with Blue water everywhere, the conditions are great. The only thing missing is you amigo!

Confused Currents, Confused Conditions, Stripers and Massive Bait!

Things have gotten even a little strange for a transition period. It’s a yearly thing, cold water currents changing to warm water currents from the opposite direction can at times be “confusing”. Right now the mix-up is with the species and the water temperatures. Honestly it’s like they don’t know if they’re “coming or going” literally. The good news is normally when we see the “clashing currents” we get dirty water stirred up from the bottom of the bay. For now it’s mostly blue water, but there is that “clean green” that is cold, not blue, it’s somewhere in between. There has been some of that, but for the majority of the area the water is blue and waiting for you to arrive.

Living Like A Local: Travel Advisory Scams!

Written By Stan Gabruk Before I start this article, I have to say the latest travel warning posted by the United States surprised me. I expected them to warn the world about Covid-19 again. Put the fear of god into you travelers, but that’s not the case at all. In fact the U.S. Travel […]

Winter Fishing Conditions Continue, Stripers Off Punta Mita, Snappers Move In

It’s funny how things work out around here. When winter arrives, tourism’s high season begins. But as high season begins, fishing high season comes to an end. There is a small timeframe where great weather and great fishing overlap. Sadly that timeframe is not right now. That doesn’t mean the fishing is “bad”. It just means most of our summer species favorites like Dorado, Marlin and Sailfish are not on the catchable fish list for now. While one of the top favorites, Yellowfin Tuna is always in the area, but they’re smaller at this time of the year. Yes we have Striped Marlin, but they prefer cooler water temperatures, but frankly I’m surprised they’re still in our world class fishing grounds. But things change around here rapidly. Soon the water temperatures will we warming up, the Whales will be leaving and Sailfish will be the first Billfish to come back into the area. For now we’re seeing shorter day action for those not looking to boat Moby Dick. It’s a great time for family fishing where your younger family members are going to be larger than the fish they just caught!

Conditions Much the Same, Water Temps Drop a bit, Sea Bass, Stripers

Normally at this time of the year we’re in a “loop”. It’s not summer fishing so we’re not going to see Dorado or most of the warm water species. Striped Marlin are still roaming the area and that’s about the largest fish and only Marlin you’ll find in the area. Jack Crevalles which are “our bread and butter” come winter time are lacking in their normal numbers. So the longer day fishing trips are targeting just a few species which is “normal”. The good news is we’re still seeing Sea Bass, Grouper and Snook. The weather is perfect and the bite is on.

Striped Marlin Dominate, Jack Crevalles Increasing, Spotty Red Tide

A few weeks ago, we saw an incredible drop in water temperatures which of course pushed the warm water species out and rather quickly I might ad. It decimated the local fishing, but things have improved. Water temperatures are now 70 degrees pretty much in all our world famous fishing grounds. So the local conditions have become a bit more attractive as we have more Striped Marlin moving in. Covid on the other hand is causing some tourism challenges, but not when it comes to fishing. For those lucky enough to be “stuck” in Puerto Vallarta you will for the most part have empty fishing grounds. For the moment the fishing is about as good as you could hope for with plenty of action and Whales are just a side benefit!

Cold Water Fishing, Spotty Red Tide, Stripers “Iffy”, Feeling Lucky?

With the present conditions, things could be better for fishing. Not a great opening statement but things got weird. Water temperatures that dropped drastically a few weeks back have picked up a little. Corbetena water temperatures are up drastically but the Stripers that were in the area last week seem to have disappeared. This is what a transition period looks like. It’s a rollercoaster out there right now with some days “iffy” at best. UpDate: things change quickly in the world of fishing, things have improved since I first wrote this so read on as El Morro has turned into “Striper City”

Changing Conditions, Winter Species Moving in, Stripers, Tuna and Roosters!

Every year, for a brief few weeks, we see perfect fishing conditions in a comfortable climate! But this is how a transition period begins. It happens every year and we hope it’s late so we can get through the holiday season with world class fishing. And like every year we start to see the changing currents and thus water temperatures drop. Every November we have the Whales visit our bay and hang around until March. This is the first indication the seasons will soon be changing.
