Marina Vallarta Las Palmas I Local 3

Yellowfin Tuna Turn Up At El Banco Today, Tomorrow Who Knows?

People think that when and El Nino ends that everything is going to return to normal and the fishing will be incredible. Well that´s not exactly correct. When we see the currents swirling with warm water, then cold water we know there are going to be challenges to fishing. After an El Nino the following year, primarily summer is a bag of frustration. Right now one day the fishing is world class. The next day the fishing fleet gets word of this and BAM, no fish for love or money! The next day, who knows, it´s challenging for sure. The fish are out there, the only question is can you get them to take your bait!

Porpoise Return to Corbeteña, Sailfish in the Bay

We´re seeing some large Blue and Black Marlin at Corbeteña, Not El Banco. Bait is moving into the area like crazy in the form of three inch Sardines which of course attract Rooster fish so cross your fingers. All and all the fishing could be better, but you can always say that. If you´re targeting Blue Marlin and Black Marlin you are in the right place. Yellowfin Tuna will be moving in shortly as water temperatures drop north of the border. Patience prevails, just make sure your tank is full!

Roll the Dice Fishing, They`re out there, Felling Lucky?

We´re seeing streaky, Hot / Cold fishing, one day it´s great, next day it´s a fish ghost town. October is the beginning of the highest part of fishing high season so to me this is a little disappointing, but not shocking. It´s also the time of the year we see currents start to change and we´re seeing signs of this as well. Dirty water in the bay is a great indicator when it´s not from rain. So currents are stirring up the muck and sentiment sitting on the bottom of the bay. Just past La Cruz Marina the water turns to clear green water, another indication currents are changing. Clean Green water as Capt Cesar calls it isn´t an issue, but it is cool water. But four miles past the point off Punta Mita is High Visibility Blue Water so the bay is mixed up.

Blue Water, Dorado, Marlin, Sailfish and Football Tuna

Right after I wrote last week’s report things flipped for the better. The ¨Clean Green water we´ve had for the last weeks is not gone. Blue water has returned to the area and we´re seeing an increase in Dorado in both numbers and locations. Marlin are still the main game fish out there, but they´re out there! Yellowfin around El Banco but they´re Footballs of 60 lbs. We have fish and they´re hungry for your bait amigo. High Season for fishing has finally kicked in big time so get your butt to PV and join the fun!

Dorado Finally Show Up At Corbeteña, Marlin, Sails, Tuna Too!

Normally we´ll see Dorado in Puerto Vallarta’s fishing grounds anytime after April. For years now we´ve seen the arrival of Dorado later and later in the fishing season and this year is the latest I can remember. With all the long liners, indiscriminate fishing (poaching) at out fisheries like the Tres Maria Islands, aka Prison Islands it doesn´t surprise me at all. But for now, we have some very large Dorado for a week straight now at Corbeteña. El Banco is still alive with Action as well. The water is still a clear green which is always an indication of cool water moving in. Bait is plentiful and the fishing grounds are deserted. To be able to have Corbeteña or El Banco to yourself with Marlin and more is for many a fantasy. A Fantasy that could come true but first you have to be here!

Finally Sharks and Porpoise Leave, Marlin and Yellowfin Tuna at Corbeteña

Finally, Finally, Finally the Bottle Nose Dolphin or Porpoise (Flipper) after almost six weeks have left the Corbeteña around the rock and we´re back in the game! Blue Marlin, Black Marlin and fair sized Yellowfin Tuna with a thin possibility of larger YF Tuna if you´re the ¨Lucky Type¨. So, are you feeling Lucky? Water Currents are still flipping. It´s on one day, off the next day fishing with new challenges, but nothing we can´t handle!

El Banco Comes to Life, Marlin Everywhere, Currents Swirling

After two weeks of less than exciting fishing here in Puerto Vallarta we see signs of life once again at Corbeteña and El Banco. It´s been an up and down week with the passing of another tropical storm that just a day later hit Cabo. We´ve seen dirty water come in at the Marietta Islands point out as a result of changing currents. And if that´s not enough for you, then consider how the warm water is way up north and we´re seeing our Yellowfin Tuna and Dorado once again vacationing in San Diego!

El Banco Springs to Life, Corbeteña has Marlin in Between

Hello everyone, it´s been another interesting week with much the same and some surprising news. To start we´ve still got some very large Marlin around the area. We still have challenges in the form of Bottle Nose Dolphin and Sharks at Corbeteña. El Banco has sprung to life with Marlin as well. Dorado which have been MIA or Missing in Action have shown up at Punta Mita. Water and Bait conditions couldn´t be better and the general health of Sportfishing in PV is incredible. As we enter the lowest part of the season where a tourist is pretty scarce, the fishing improves and the conditions, financial as well will only make it more attractive to come fishing in some of the best fishing grounds in the world! The best is yet to come!

Sharks, Dolphin Bait Robbers, Perfect Conditions, Picky Marlin

Here we go again, another week of the same, but that´s not a bad thing. We still have sharks and Dolphin out there taking your bait like a free sample at Costco! Making bait is not impossible at the deep water locations, but it´s not exactly easy. The water is still a High Visibility Blue, still plenty of bait (Closer in again), water temperatures are on the rise and frankly things could be better I guess, but not much.

Tuna Return to Corbetena, Porpoise & Shark Bait Robbers!

I guess it all depends on if you´re a half full or half empty type of person as to if conditions are good or bad. Yes there are still challenges, but this is fishing and if you can´t handle a challenge then you shouldn´t get in the boat to go fishing! We have World Class Big fish out there, they´re spread out and they´re taking baits! There are also ¨challenges¨ in the form of Dolphin or Porpoise and Sharks, Lemon Sharks to be exact. Conditions for fishing are great, but this cat and mouse game you have to play with these bait stealers will drive you nuts! Welcome to the world of Big Game Fishing amigos!
