Marina Vallarta Las Palmas I Local 3

Perfect Water Temps, Dorado Moving in, Marlin at Corbetena

It’s been an interesting week as we move deeper into peak fishing season in Puerto Vallarta. Marlin are at Corbetena and off Punta Mita, Sailfish are picking up in numbers. Dorado are around any debris or stump, all with perfect water temperatures. Massive bait, perfect days, it’s wide open and anything is possible out there.

Marlin and Sailfish Roaming from Corbetena to El Banco

As we move deeper into the best time of the year for fishing here in the Banderas Bay of Puerto Vallarta, we see things change slowly. Daily there are small improvements that all add up to world class fishing. We’re seeing Marlin, Sailfish and Tuna moving in and out of the area. Nothing is set in stone and remember fish move. At this time of the year we see the inshore fishing less attractive with the dirty water, the results of heavy rain in Guadalajara and locally. This is normal, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have great fishing in the bay, on the other hand 500 lb Marlin won’t be on the “menu” in the bay. Decisions, Decisions….

Special Article: The Tres Maria Islands, Mexico,  World Record Yellowfin Tuna, World Class Fishing

These days there has been a lot of talk about the Tres Maria Islands. When you ask a Yellowfin Tuna Fanatic, they don’t know much more than the “rumors” they’ve heard and the Pictures they’ve seen. And yes, they’re impressive. For the Pacific side of Mexico, Yellowfin Tuna are revered as the top game fish Sportsmen are looking for. With the secret out, there has been a lot of attention turning in the direction of Puerto Vallarta. I’ve stolen some information and inserted my own slant to develop what seems to be the only real independent description of the Tres Maria Islands. He I have stolen a little history and there’s a little “Wikki” in there too. To my knowledge this is the best description of the area and the fishing conditions available.

Corbetena & El Banco, Yellowfin Tuna, Marlin, Sailfish Numbers Increasing

As the fishing has been gradually improving it’s the time of the year when things can change dramatically. This past week in the deep water fishing grounds of El Banco and Corbetena were barely breathing. Now as we move forward we’ll have fewer and fewer “emergency room” moments. The good news, the patient has come back to life now with Marlin, Sailfish and Yellowfin Tuna running the neighborhood. It may just be time to break into the piggy bank you hid from the wife!

Massive Rain, Huge Trash Line, Sailfish at Sayulita

One thing is for sure, nothing stays the same for long in “Fish City”. Things have stepped down a notch from last week and we’re seeing what was concentrated around Corbetena and El Banco has spread out again. Marlin and Sailfish are out there, but for the next few days you’ll need to move some water. In layman terms that means you’ll be moving around from El Banco to Corbetena so you’ll need longer days on the water. The good news is there are fish out there!

Wide Open, Spread out Fishing, Marlin & Sailfish Dominant

In the world of Big Game Fishing, nothing ever stays the same from day to day. For the last few weeks it’s been wide open. By that I mean the fish are moving around the area with no real concentration for any real length of time in any one location. So, this means you have to be prepared to move around and find the fish. This is actually normal, but for those on a thin fuel budget this could be an issue if targeting large Marlin, Sailfish or Tuna. We have fish, but we don’t have them in a barrel.

El Banco Explodes with Marlin, Sailfish and Dorado!

YeHa! El Banco this has become the place to be. I always say “They’re bigger at The Bank” and this week we are seeing some incredible fishing at the high spots! That is one heck of a lead in and that’s really all you need.

Marlin and Sailfish Still Spread Out Thin and Moving Around

For the last three weeks now we’ve been seeing the same frustrating conditions. We have fish, of course we have fish, the question is “Where are they today”? With massive amounts of bait in the area there is no concentration of fish in any one spot. This means you’ll need a full fuel tank giving you the ability to move from location to location until you find them. Many people take a stab at one location and that’s about it, they’re going back. But if you’re serious about your fishing, then you need to have the fuel and finances to move as much as twenty five miles in any direction and fast. It may kill your fishing budget, but that’s what it’s for amigos. They’re out there, are you situated to take advantage of an opportunity or are you stuck in one place?
