Marina Vallarta Las Palmas I Local 3

Drastic Water Temp Increase, Trash Line Dorado, Sailfish, Marlin, Fish are Spreading Out, Too Much Bait

On a weekly basis we normally see gradual changes in our world famous fishing grounds. This week that doesn’t hold true. We’ve seen a massive invasion of bait throughout the area. Water temps jumped to late summer temp levels. Trash line is working now that we’re getting some rain, but there is also a lot of Sea Weed as well which is not a bad thing. When it comes to fishing, conditions are never perfect, but with the blue water, a trash line and more bait by the minute, great things can happen. But first you need to step up and check off another Bucket List life goal!

Water Temps Up, Trash Line Working, Black Marlin, Sailfish, 150 lb Yellowfin Tuna at Corbetena / El Banco

As we move deeper into the “High Season” for fishing we’re seeing the season develop as we’d expect. Water temperatures have taken a step up again, plenty of bait, warm blue water with perfect bait conditions are adding up to world class fishing you don’t want to ignore. The weather is hot, humid and uncomfortable to many visitors. Not really any worse than Houston or New Orleans, but still something to deal with. Fish don’t know this, they like the warm water and easy food. Locals should be considering heading out for at least eight hours, longer days will get you trophy gamefish and a story to last a lifetime.

Corbetena: Marlin and Sailfish and Tuna, Oh My! And El Banco Too!

Puerto Vallarta now is considered one of the top vacation destinations in the world these days. Because of this Puerto Vallarta is getting more and more attention regarding Art, Food and of course our World Class Sportfishing. As the summer months come on we see less and less of the fair weather tourist. Right now we’re seeing warmer days and high humidity, but not much in the way of Seasonal Rains. Our most sought after species of Yellowfin Tuna, Marlin, Sailfish and Dorado are finally moving back into the area. Bait conditions are text-book perfect. Water temperatures are in a gradual rise gratefully. Blue water is the norm and with the little rain we have been getting, there has been a nice little trash line. So finally, high season for fishing is upon us and things are shaping up!

Yellowfin Cows 200 to 250 lbs, some over 300 lbs at Corbetena, Dorado in Bay, Sailfish El Morro

The days are longer now, the sun is more intense, and naturally the days are very warm with plenty of humidity. Perfect conditions for our summer species which are finally moving in. Bait is more than plentiful and we’ve seen the Seasonal Rains once again. We’re finally coming into the Season when we can expect larger fish, maybe not in large numbers, but things are picking up by the day. With the rains returning we’ve got several trash lines not to mention Sea Weed coming down from California. Get ready amigos, Puerto Vallarta is in the summer grove now and things will gradually improve from this point forward.

Summer Fishing Begins, Blue Marlin, Sailfish, Stripers, Yellowfin Tuna and yes even some Dorado!

We normally hear about specific locations, Corbetena, El Banco, El Morro, and the golden Triangle as I like to call it. Last week it was pretty much the same conditions. Now why is this important, because your best chance to boat a Blue Marlin, Sailfish, or Yellowfin Tuna is in between these three specific points. Or in the golden triangle. So what this means if you’re looking to catch fish of any size, you’ll be moving some water, or I should say using fuel! These days in the war against increasing prices, most boats are selling area, not fishing. That’s a problem, fish move.

Stripers in Bay, Smaller Dorado, Massive Bait Amounts, Warming Water, Fishing is Great!

For the last three weeks now I’ve been surprised at the amount of Striped Marlin in the bay. As water temperatures rise we normally see Striped Marlin leaving the area. But when there is so much “Fast Food” why would you leave? Smaller Dorado are in the bay which is encouraging. For now we’re focusing on the “water” conditions. We’re in a “current” transition period where clashing currents can create dirty water and hair pulling frustration.

It’s All About Striped Marlin in the Bay, Sailfish at Corbetena, Football Yellowfin Tuna Arri

It’s been an interesting week with some frankly strange fishing conditions. For now we’re still seeing Stripers aka Striped Marlin anywhere from 40 to 175 lbs, but mostly in the smaller ranges. Water temperatures are moving up as they should be. Air temperatures are still on the cool side for May, but this will change soon enough. Bait is moving into the deep water locations and inside the bay as well. Massive bait in the bay keeps the fishing great and the expenses down!
