Marina Vallarta Las Palmas I Local 3

Special Article: Yellowfin Tuna, A Spectacular Species

Written by Stan Gabruk As we come into “High Season” for fishing in Puerto Vallarta, Yellowfin Tuna Fishing is considered one of the most desired Game Fish there is. The Tres Maria Islands, our local fishery is full of Yellowfin Tuna at this moment bordering on 300 lbs and up. And it’s a daily occurrence […]

Finally We Have Fishing in Puerto Vallarta Dorado, Rooster Fish & Marlin

We’ve been waiting for it, mostly patiently and finally it happened, we have fishing in Puerto Vallarta’s world famous fishing grounds. Now this is not some declaration that fishing from this point forward is going to be perfect. But it is an announcement that we will now begin to see normal summer conditions. With Hurricanes, Dorado, Marlin and more finally taking baits and moving in, it would be hard to deny “Summer Fishing in Puerto Vallarta” is finally here!

Blue Marlin, Sailfish, Warmer Water, Massive Bait and Trash Lines!

After weeks of stagnant conditions, small changes can make all the difference. With water temperatures up it looks like the swirling currents should be coming to an end soon. With the seasonal rains finally beginning, we have a trash line again, YeHa! Sailfish are picking up in numbers, the first of “reliable” Blue Marlin are moving in. With sprinklings of Yellowfin Tuna and Dorado, things are changing, finally! We’re still transitioning, but not for much longer.

Stagnant Conditions, Swirling Currents, Transition Time!

Fishing in Puerto Vallarta is never a sure thing if targeting only one species, but if you are looking for action we always have that. I know my reports lately seem to be a little “cookie cutter”. But if you’ve been reading my articles here in the past, you know this is the time of the year when the fishing seasons change. I call it a “Transition Period”. In a “normal” year the tourism season is normally over. With Covid restrictions winding down, we’re seeing a “second High season” in June. Thankfully we have Stripers still running the area, Yellowfin Tuna are small but out there. Blue Marlin are sparse and Sailfish are hard to find. What does this all mean? It means the fish are out there, the question is: Are you willing to do what it takes to boat a Bucket List fantasy?

Fishing in Puerto Vallarta, Early Summer Fishing Conditions Continue

When we come into this time of the year, fishing can be up and down and that’s a bit of an understatement for the moment. Species are moving in and out, water is mostly blue but there are some green water, or cold water spots still in the area. So we’re still on a water temperature rollercoaster. With huge amounts of varied bait out there at times it can be hard to turn their heads. That all sounds pretty negative, but in reality it’s normal and we’re inching our way into what may be a great fishing season. If interested in the Tres Maria Islands Yellowfin Tuna are on tap! World class fishing in Puerto Vallarta continues!

Picking a Charter Company, What You Don’t know Part 2 of 2 Continued

Yesterday I posted an article designed to inform and enlighten you on the “in’s and out’s” of a Fishing Charter Business and all the complications. Mexico as a third world country does it’s best to insure your safety and that boats comply with the laws. The simple fact, like the United States, laws that aren’t enforced are only laws when there is an incident or situation where the law was clearly broken. Of course as a vacationer or tourist what you don’t know, will hurt you.

Rollercoaster Fishing Continues, Great Conditions

It’s funny, but what goes up, must come down and sometimes goes sideways. That pretty much sums things up for this week. Things were good, bad and in between depending on where you chose for fishing grounds. Water temperatures take another tick up after being down. Bait is moving in and is a double edged thing. But most importantly people are coming back to Puerto Vallarta and that’s a good thing. Normally the fishing is lacking at this time of the year, but we’re doing alright with several new species showing up and with Blue water everywhere, the conditions are great. The only thing missing is you amigo!

Confused Currents, Confused Conditions, Stripers and Massive Bait!

Things have gotten even a little strange for a transition period. It’s a yearly thing, cold water currents changing to warm water currents from the opposite direction can at times be “confusing”. Right now the mix-up is with the species and the water temperatures. Honestly it’s like they don’t know if they’re “coming or going” literally. The good news is normally when we see the “clashing currents” we get dirty water stirred up from the bottom of the bay. For now it’s mostly blue water, but there is that “clean green” that is cold, not blue, it’s somewhere in between. There has been some of that, but for the majority of the area the water is blue and waiting for you to arrive.

Massive Bait, Swirling Currents, Stripers and Baby Dorado, Strange Stuff

Written by Stan Gabruk, owner Master Baiter’s Sportfishing & Tackle It seems sometimes that Puerto Vallarta’s fishing grounds are always changing. Seasonal changes and daily changes in fishing conditions can be frustrating for sure. We’re now at the time of the year where we have warming water temperatures with swirling cold currents, a frustration […]

Increasing Water Temperatures, Summer Species Moving in, Dorado, Stripers, Sailfish

Written by Stan Gabruk, owner Master Baiter’s Sportfishing & Tackle A week ago when we had the larger sized porpoises moving following a massive amount of bait that in turn was following the currents. I knew then, that it looked like we could be seeing a change. Less than a week later conditions and […]
