Marina Vallarta Las Palmas I Local 3

Fishing Frustrations, Strong Currents, Hurricanes and Rough Seas

When we enter this time of the year Hurricanes are a part of our daily life. Now we don’t get hit with Hurricanes, but they do pass the Bay of Banderas frequently. More frequently than you might think. We’ve see some interesting situations. Clashing Currents from two different Hurricanes hundreds of miles apart came together perfectly outside of the bay and we had some large swells with short intervals. It put the idea of fishing out of the picture. That doesn’t mean we didn’t have any fishing. It just means you couldn’t get out of the bay!

Catch “What’s There” Fishing in Puerto Vallarta!

After more than twenty years in the business of fishing in Puerto Vallarta I’ve come to understand that what happened yesterday is not exactly what’s going to happen today or tomorrow. Such is the nature of world class Deep Sea Fishing. You see fish move, conditions change and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. When the seasonal rains begin, there’s a whole new batch of factors that also come into play. Fishing is always a challenge, but this is nothing new, how you handle this challenge ends in catching fish or going in empty handed. The good news is we have fish. Marlin, Sailfish, Dorado, Rooster fish, you name it. It’s best if you have an experienced captain but non-professionals will catch fish as well. That’s why I’m here, doing my best to send you in the right direction. Right now that’s going to be Corbetena where you’ll catch fish. Now which “fish” is the question?

Seasonal Rains, Dorado, Blue Marlin and Yellowfin Tuna!

After years, if you’ve been reading my articles, then you know what happened last week or even yesterday is no guarantee of what will happen tomorrow! But if this week is any indication of what is to come, then we’re going to have a great fishing season! With Black Marlin finally making an appearance, Yellowfin Tuna are right there with them. Now fishing this early in the season is always hard to call, but we have fish! If you’re thinking about coming to go fishing in Puerto Vallarta, world class fishing awaits you now.

Special Article: Yellowfin Tuna, A Spectacular Species

Written by Stan Gabruk As we come into “High Season” for fishing in Puerto Vallarta, Yellowfin Tuna Fishing is considered one of the most desired Game Fish there is. The Tres Maria Islands, our local fishery is full of Yellowfin Tuna at this moment bordering on 300 lbs and up. And it’s a daily occurrence […]

Increasing Water Temperatures, Summer Species Moving in, Dorado, Stripers, Sailfish

Written by Stan Gabruk, owner Master Baiter’s Sportfishing & Tackle A week ago when we had the larger sized porpoises moving following a massive amount of bait that in turn was following the currents. I knew then, that it looked like we could be seeing a change. Less than a week later conditions and […]

Winter Fishing Continues with Bait Balls, Birds and Striped Marlin

Written by Stan Gabruk, owner Master Baiter’s Sportfishing & Tackle Normally in Puerto Vallarta April is the “last” month of the year where you are still blissfully ignorant that summer is coming. But the last week or so we’ve seen much warmer and longer days. For most of the world it’s early spring, for […]

Chilled Out Fishing Grounds, Dirty Water, Bait Overload and Bay Fishing

Well folks, the cold snap continues and frankly we’re in the middle of a transition period. The warm water species have left, except for Yellowfin tuna. The water at Corbetena is dirty as is most of the fishing grounds around the area. Whale food aka plankton is so massive in the area, it’s turned into a fish smorgasbord! Yes folks for the moment, remembering that things can change in a heartbeat, fishing outside of the bay is “challenging” at best.

Flip a Coin Fishing, Drastic Drop in Water Temps, Big Game Fish Disappearing

Hello everybody, well it finally happened, water temperatures have dropped like a rock and we’re seeing the larger Game Fish species bugging out! We’ve seen water temperatures drop for near 80 degrees to now 64 degrees, unheard of ! To our “local” species thats like a snow ball hitting you in the face! Frankly I’ve never seen a drop in water temperatures like this in the last twenty years I’ve been writing articles. Now don’t stress, fishing did not come to an end. It just means that we’re moving into the transition and frankly it’s right on time. The Jet stream north of the boarder has been snaking all around and we’re seeing cold weather in much of Mexico due to this snake like jet stream.

World Class Fishing as Dorado Invade Puerto Vallarta

Well it’s not quite a cookie cutter report, but when the fishing is world class you and great you sound like you’re repeating yourself. No matter how you look at it, the fishing in Puerto Vallarta is incredible. We could call this article “Dorado City”, but the title is a little too short (Ha Ja). What we are long on is arm burning fishing action. Don’t want a long day, perfect. Looking to save some money, the bay is on fire. Want larger fish, we’ve got all the world class species you could hope for. Frankly, that’s pretty much the fishing report. Don’t worry, I’ll share the details while you try and stay calm.
