Crazy Currents, Changing Conditions is Challenging Puerto Vallarta Anglers

It’s been a rough year for Puerto Vallarta Fishing all around. In April CNN spoke lies about the conditions in Mexico concerning Drug Issues, Swine Flu and the general state of Mexico. It put the brakes on all tourist related businesses and has hurt Puerto Vallarta to the bone. Now that we´ve entered November we’re all looking forward to people returning to our fair city, no matter what that may be. One thing for sure, whatever it is, it will be better than what we’ve been seeing for the last six months.

But we’re into November now and tourism is returning, slowly but surely. Demand for Restaurants, Services, shops and yes Sportfishing in Puerto Vallarta is on the upswing. Conditions have changed a little this week, but that’s to be expected as currents dictate the ¨flow¨ of things when it comes to fish. We’ve seen the deep water locations of Corbeteña and El Banco run hot and cold. Hot in the form of warm water and cold as in Yellowfin tuna. First, the conditions for the last week were not great. We had a storm south of PV and a cold front come down from California causing rolling seas and rough days beyond the bay. Having said that, Sailfish, Blue and Striped Marlin (350 lbs), Dorado (40 lbs) and Cubera Snapper (45 lbs – 60 lbs) are still hanging around the rock at Corbeteña. At El Banco, Dorado have been running in the 45 lb range, Sailfish are large also in the 80 to 100 inch range and can be anywhere from 80 lbs to 130, it just depends. Yellowfin have been in and out at both locations, but your chances of boating one of these beauties right now is greater on the down side. Thank god for the other species or we’d be hurting for fish.

Closer in to El Morro and the Marietta Islands what was so automatic last week is now a little more work. Sailfish, Jack Crevalls and Sailfish are still in the area. But it’s not like fishing in a barrel like last week. But using live bait, Google eyes or Skip Jack Tuna along with Petrileros lures of four to six inches will get you something to brag about as the blue plate special that evening! Haven’t seen any Rooster fish the last few days, but like always, things can change in a heartbeat.

In the bay the fishing has returned to normal from the unusual conditions of Dorado in every nook and corner of the bay. Again with the current changes we’ve seen less Dorado, but plenty of Snappers, Roballo, Bonito, Needle fish, Skip Jack Tuna, Snook and more. The point off Cabo Correntes is showing signs of nice sized Sailfish and rumors of Rooster fish. May be worth the time and trouble. The trash line is fading and soon will be a thing of the past as the seasonal rains come to an end. If you can catch the trash line, it’s a fish machine and make sure you stop by and cast a few diamond jigs at it on the clean water side. This will make a slow day take off with action.

Warning: There is a pirate Master Baiter’s site that is in the process of being closed down by the Mexican authorities both on the internet and in a store in town. But the legal system is slow in Mexico, so if you visit any cloned site that claims to be Master Baiter´s offering guaranteed prices, at sites OTHER than www.MasterBaiters.com.mx, you are NOT dealing with me (Stan Gabruk) directly, . They even say they´re me on the phone, so don´t be fooled by imposters!
