Dorado at Marietta Islands, Jack Crevalls / Rooster Fish Invasion Written by Stan Gabruk Winter has arrived As we move deeper into winter fishing we find we still have Dorado in the area as water temperatures begin to drop below 80 degrees. Bull Dorado at Corbeteña, Cubera Snappers at 60 lbs
Seasonal Changes continue as Sierra Mackerals and Jack Crevalls dominate bay fishing. Football Yellowfin Tuna at 40 lbs hover off Yelapa. Corbeteña turns into Dorado Central. The Marietta Islands are still rocking with Rooster fish in the 35 to 50 lb range. It´s wide open fishing and those with short day fishing trips can have great action with perfect conditions. Winter fishing still rocks!

Marietta Islands Explode With 50 lb Rooster Fish
Well if you´ve been reading my recent articles I mentioned several weeks how the champagne days of fishing were coming to an end. They aren´t dead yet, but the indicators for cold water have arrived with the Jack Crevalls and Sierra Mackerals. Change is in the currents amigos and winter fishing is knocking on the door. But fear not, we still have Yellowfin Tuna and plenty of bait, but say good bye to Cow Country!
The Champagne days of Sportfishing Continues!
If I told you that in the highest part of high season for both fishing and tourism you could have Puerto Vallarta´s world famous fishing grounds absolutely to yourself, you´d probably think I was telling you a fishy story. But these are indeed the conditions that exist at Corbeteña and El Banco. Now you may think the fishing must be horrible if there are no boats heading out, but that would be an ¨inaccurate¨ presumption. The reason I say this is because the fishing is incredible with not a single sportsman in sight. Black Marlin, Sailfish, Dorado, Yellowfin Tuna, all the players are here. The only thing missing is YOU.

Champagne days of Sportfishing in Puerto Vallarta
Normally in December we see the turn of the season, the days are cooler, the evening cold to those who live here in Puerto Vallarta Year Round. This December as yet has been unseasonably warm keeping our world famous fishing grounds warm and abundant with fish! A machine for Marlin and Yellowfin Tuna. Dorado are still strong around the Marietta Islands, with some nice bulls still hanging out around ignored El Morro. With empty fishing grounds, the seasonal Sportsman has everything he could possibly want. Perfect temperatures, blue water, abundant fishing, deserted fishing grounds, it´s like you´re in the 50´s but with newer equipment. For a short time every year the conditions come together and form the Champaign days of Sportfishing in Puerto Vallarta.
Full Moon Cramps Yellowfin Tuna, Sailfish and Dorado, Marietta´s on Fire!
With the warm weather continuing into unseasonable, water temperatures remain in the prefect range for all the usual gamefish we love to write about. Bait Balls exploding all over the deep water locations of Corbeteña and El Banco. Blue water, and deserted fishing grounds. You can literally head out to Corbeteña and be the only boat for as far as the eye can see. For this time of the year this is highly unusual and creates an opportunity to have the fishing grounds all to yourself, now that is a luxury. The Full moon phase of the month has done what it always does, pushed the bite to the early morning hours. Fishing remains steady and reliable into December, give yourself a Christmas Present, you deserve it!
Capt. Tory Takes Yellowfin Tuna 1st Prize / 57th Pez Vela Tournament, New Location?
As the weather becomes more pleasant every day we can all understand how words like paradise flow so easily. It´s the one time of the year when it seems the planets align and the gods smile on Puerto Vallarta and her world famous fishing grounds. The 57th Pez Vela Tournament happened this past week end and as you would expect it was a monster success. But with the tournament happening, there needs to be fish and fish we have amigos! Marlin, Sailfish, Dorado, Yellowfin Tuna, Cubera Snappers, you name it. Deep Water is where it´s at, but short days guarantee fish tales for days and years to come. Time to go fishing, world records are waiting to be had amigos!
