Normally I don’t like “cookie cutter” fishing reports that is unless they’re like this one. When things get rolling it can be a bit of an up and down type thing with changing bites, currents and weather conditions. At this point we’ve finally reached the kind of fishing reports that are going to be similar from week to week now. At this time of the year experienced fisherman understand that the “big fish” action is happening at the deep water locations. Corbetena and El Banco is where the summer fishing action is. This week we’ve seen a welcome explosion of fishing in the bay as well.Yes folks, fishing high season is here!
And it finally happened, “BOOM” Puerto Vallarta Fishing Explodes. Yellowfin Tuna, Blue Marlin, Striped Marlin, Sailfish, Dorado, Rooster fish and the list goes on. As predicted, actually after all these years in the fishing business it’s expected. This is some of the best fishing of the season. Plenty of bait everywhere, beautiful high visibility blue water with “any fish you wish” conditions you’d be hard pressed to find a better time to go fishing.
Welcome to another amazing week of fishing in Puerto Vallarta. Forget the introduction statement and let’s get straight to it. Yellowfin Tuna at Corbetena are jumping and having a great time with boils all over the area around Corbetena.
Finally after weeks of rollercoaster conditions and fickle fish things have finally changed. With super high visibility blue water and perfect water temperatures conditions are close to perfect. Bait is a bit of an issue at the deep water fishing grounds though. Corbetena and El Banco are both “cooking with gas” and more or less deserted, imagine that. Coming into October we’re ready for the best fishing season of the year for fishing.
Fishing is never an exact science and it’s never what you think it’s going to be. It’s always challenging and right now is no exception. After weeks of rains, Hurricanes passing, Strong currents and dirty water, conditions have improved greatly. Does that mean the fishing is perfect, of course not. But it does mean we have fish. Marlin, Tuna, Sailfish, Rooster fish, we’ve got them. Their jumping and having a great time. Now if you can convince them to take a bait you’ll have the time of your life.
One thing about living and fishing in Puerto Vallarta is you’re a slave to the weather. Hurricanes passing, high pressure zones, dirty water and strong currents. We have to deal with these situations and more. Sometimes things come up short for fishing. But we’re past that now and after two weeks we have fish at our world famous fishing grounds!
You know it never fails, we start seeing some great fishing which only promises to improve then “WHAM” something happens and machine stops. By that I mean we’ve seen strong currents and heavy rain. When this happens it’s hard to keep up with conditions let alone what’s out there roaming the neighborhood. For now we’re still in the post Hurricane hangover with spotty blue water and slim pickings fishing wise. This normally disappears after about four days, but with follow on storms and strong currents the fish are either deep or in the process of coming back. This is normal, but it doesn’t mean we have to like it.
It’s been a real rollercoaster week at or world famous fishing grounds. We’ve seen no less than three Hurricanes in ten days. We didn’t see much “foul” weather in Puerto Vallarta per se. We did see some swells in the bay and waves on the beaches. We all know what Hurricanes do to the fishing, it pushes away. Now they can be pushed into the area or out of the area. So far we’ve had a great fishing season and it’s only going to get better. With some challenges naturally, we’re moving into the High Season for fishing in Puerto Vallarta. With Yellowfin Tuna in and out, there is no guarantee you’ll run into Yellowfin Tuna at Corbetena or El Banco. Having said that there have been some impressive reports of occasional larger YF Tuna boated. Black Marlin are a little larger by the day, Dorado are disappointing in size, but the numbers are going through the roof. With very few boats heading out to our world class fishing grounds you couldn’t ask for better conditions amigos!
It seems every week that there are changes, but not often are these changes drastic. But change is a constant and one change this week is the arrival of Black Marlin and an increase in the number and size of the Blue Marlin. Dorado continue to be abundant but are increasing in size. Sailfish are all over our world famous fishing grounds. Bait abundant, perfect water temperatures and high visibility blue water. Our “High Season” for fishing is shaping up nicely as we enter August and some of the best fishing of the year!
