With this up and down season we are seeing strange and unusual things lately. One day we`re hot as a Jalapeno, the next day it´s not so ¨spicy¨.  The seasons look like they´re trying to change then we see warm days and drastic humidity, which of course relates to warmer surface water temperatures.  Which of course is great for summer species. All and all the fishing is good, but you have to deal with El Nino and other unwelcome challenges.

Corbeteña this week has been less than exciting as it falls asleep with a real slow down in action. Yellowfin Tuna Footballs at 35 lbs should be drawing in Marlin and the likes but sadly not so. Wahoo are still around the rock at 60 lbs for the lucky angler. Sails are pretty much moving out of the area for some reason. Jack Crevalls are abundant everywhere, Bonito to 35 lbs, Cubera Snappers for the jiggers at 50 lbs, Red Snappers averaging 30 lbs all around the area. Marlin are hard to find and for now Corbeteña isn´t the best option for your fishing buck. Most of the action has been North of Corbeteña. Stay tuned, things change quickly. El Banco has been doing very well for a while with Yellowfin on the high spots, then the production fishing ships came in and decimated the entire area, welcome to the unwelcome challenges I was talking about.

Off Punta Mita, around the Marietta Islands and El Morro are all individual fishing areas and all have their own personality. For now we´re seeing Red Snapper pick up in numbers around El Morro along with Rooster fish in the 30 to 45 lb range. With some outrageous luck maybe a Dorado or Sailfish sighting. Wahoo at 60 lbs are fond of El Morro and there has been a few boatings of this coveted species. The point of Punta Mita is seeing much the same, Red Snappers and some Dorado around 25 lbs for the super lucky. Striped Marlin are still at the 15 mile mark off the point, but not as thick as last week. The Marietta Islands should have Rooster fish, but for some reason they´ve been sparse around this area, this should change in the next twenty minutes.

Inside the bay, it´s another cookie cutter report, Jack Crevalls at 40 lbs, Sierra Mackerals to 12 lbs, Bonito to 35 lbs, Needle fish to 45 lbs and possibilities of stray Dorado in warm currents. Fishing in the bay for Jack Crevalls can be a blast and they´re not too hard to find. Looking for a great fishing day with plenty of action, don´t discount Jack Crevalls as trash fish. They´re stong fighters, perfect size for the family fishing day, even younglings can handle these species and be excited they ¨caught it on their own¨!

With the full moon doing it´s thing, the bite has been surprisingly late around 11:00 a.m. But this is weird so plan on an early bite and be at the place you want to be earlier, you can´t get hurt waiting for the bite! Lures are still working fairly well, still blue skirts with silver or white markings on a five inch lure is a great place to start. Live bait is working well, but the Rooster fish will prefer bullet Bonita or Skippies as bait. Water temperatures are still around 77 degrees with warm days making surface temperatures rise a bit so who knows, it could be a help? Ha ha ha.
