Puerto Vallarta Sportfishing, El Morro to The Marietta Islands, Action Awaits
You know we do our best out there when it comes to trying to understand the world of fish, let alone the world of Sportfishing! This year we’ve seen a real mixed bag. Summer time fish like Roosters and Needle fish are in the bay in good numbers. Yet fish like we’d expect to see, fish like Dorado and Sailfish have all but left the area. With water temperatures hovering at or just below eighty degrees this is not normal. Yet there are plenty of fish to be had IF you aren´t looking for Moby Dick or his close cousin. If it’s action you are looking for then we have what the doctor ordered. Fishing in El Nino Conditions, Flexibility in mind and body will be necessary! Some of the mind flexibility we are talking about is having the ability to open it! For those looking for monster Yellowfin Tuna, they may be out there, but way out there. The open mind will either understand that it may be a bust of a day or they may come back in with some trophy fish. But the closed mind will demand a product, or fish in this case that is hard to produce at best. Trust is another thing, do you trust the guy you are discussing a fishing trip with. Remember, it’s your vacation dollar they want, coming back with fish, that is another issue. Return customers have no value to this guy. Selling a person someone else’s services is not his concern. So keep your brain in gear, find the best price you can, but make sure you are getting what you pay for, not paying for what they give you…. The fishing this week has been less than perfect, but those heading out to the Reefs between the Marietta Islands and El Morro have been coming in all smiles! Roosters have set up shop at these reefs, this is the real story right now when it comes to Sportfishing in Puerto Vallarta. Jack Crevalls in the 30 lb range continue to be very happy in this area. Also present in good numbers and sizes are Bonito (20-40 lbs), Snappers (15 – 25 lbs), Ojo De Peras (25-35 lbs) and many more to choose from. Trolling live bait around the reefs, remember not too close, even produced a Striped Marlin in the 200 lb range, although this very unusual indeed. With three different areas in very close proximity, the flexibility and species variety makes this whole area your best bet to hook into several fish and yet be close enough to be back at the dock in an hour. Those heading out to the point at Punta Mita may still see long liners out there screwing up the fishing. But even they are leaving the area with very little action, well that is except for killing Turtles in those lines! Other areas are more attractive for the moment. Corbeteña and El Banco have been showing signs of Yellowfin Tuna, Marlin (striped), Cubera Snapper in the 60 lb range, Smaller Sailfish and Dorado. Yes I said Dorado, but they are not close in as we normally see, you’ll only find them in these deeper blue water locations. Even then, you may come back empty handed. Corbeteña is a location that can change its complexion in a heartbeat. With the conditions changing so rapidly these days, the action should pick up there shortly. Keep an eye on this area or fire me an email for the latest conditions! Yellowfin are findable outside El Banco, but that could be five to twenty miles out in any direction west to north…. For those of you out there that read my articles regularly, I have a new fishing program online and I need people to star in the programs. Those interested in being our subject for the day should contact me at the email address below. While you will still have to pay for the charter, you will get a professionally done video of the day and the ability to turn your friends on to the program online. I am especially interested in ladies who like to fish! So if you’re coming to Vallarta and you would be interested in being the focus of one of our fishing programs, let me know. We’re looking for first timers or non-professionals so we look smarter than we really are on camera! Hahahahaaaa….. Remember to support the local advertisers and this publication by spreading the word that you saw them in the PV Mirror. Until next week, don’t forget to kiss your fish….
