As we march into tourisms high season, fishing is still at peak performance with perfect conditions all over our world famous fishing grounds of Corbeteña and El Banco. Blue water, plenty of bait varieties and enough fish to support weekly local tournaments and sport fisherman alike. It´s simple, get on a boat, get to the Marietta Islands, drop baits and lures, head towards Corbeteña or El Banco and get ready for the action to begin amigo. It´s summer fishing in paradise and it´s time for you to get your share!

Once again this week we´ve seen no rain as the rainy and Hurricane season comes to an end. This of course means the Trash Line is mostly a thing of the past, but that doesn´t mean there isn´t great fishing around the bay of Banderas. Bonito are still all over the bay running 25 to 35 lbs, perfect bait size for Sailfish and Marlin. Jack Crevalls, a winter species is still in the bay in nice numbers. Yellowfin Tuna Footballs around Yelapa, Sailfish around La Cruz to Punta Mita, with 20 lb Dorado all over the bay. For the visiting Angler who is looking to catch something for the dinner table, then you´re in luck amigo. Give yourself a six hour trip to make sure you get a chance to find that arm burning action. Remember, fish move and they have most likely changed location from the day before, so give yourself some ¨looking time¨ unless of course they know you´re coming, then that´s another thing!

The area around the Marietta Islands have been on the slow or dead side now for weeks, but this doesn´t mean these normally reliable fishing grounds can`t spring to action. Sailfish and Dorado can be in the area, but they´ve been mostly out of the area towards the deep water locations. El Morro has had Sailfish action and is more reliable, but once you´re in the area, drop baits and start trolling outwards from the bay. The farther you move out from the island area the more likely you´ll boat a Sailfish, Blue Marlin or Dorado in the 25 to 35 lb range. Any day now we´ll see this area explode with action again, but that day is not today amigo, other areas are more attractive for now and I wouldn´t spend much time here unless you see bait balls in the area.

Punta Mita is all about Sailfish and if you can find any floating trash or logs, then you´ll be in Dorado City. The area around Sayulita seems to be a recent hangout out. No guarantees, but if you´re heading to the Marietta Islands, then take a few minutes and try out the point.

As is normal in Summer the best fishing grounds are either El Banco or Corbeteña. It´s been like that forever and this week is no different. Marlin anywhere from 250 to 800 lbs are possible, Black or Blue, they`re both hanging out. Sailfish are all tournament winners, Cubera Snappers to 60 lbs for the bottom fishing types. Yellowfin Tuna are not exactly on tap, but there have been some strange incidents where 100 lb Yellowfin have been boated. For the most part Yellowfin Tuna will be between 25 and 40 lbs around the High Spots in El Banco or at Corbeteña. No promises you´ll boat a nice Yellowfin tuna, but you have a ¨chance¨. Ten hour trips are what the doctor is ordering these days to Corbeteña, El Banco is a little farther and the possibilities of a thousand pound Marlin is always there. If you´re fishing and you want it world class, then you need to be in these two areas.

With perfect blue water, plenty of Flying fish, Skippies, Goggle Eyes and bullet Bonito, there is no shortage of choices for the local species. Now that we´re out of the worst of Hurricane Season there is no reason to believe the fishing will take a turn for the worse until after the New Year´s Holiday season. So make your vacation plans to go fishing now, we´ll be waiting to hear from you.
