You can definitely see and feel the seasons are on the verge of change. Water temperatures have inched up a bit more this week, water color isn´t the dark green it has been and is changing to a clean green which is preferable.. But it´s not blue water as we prefer for the most part. We´re also seeing more Squid bait move in which normally results in Football Tuna at this time of the year, so we have Football Tuna in many areas. Marlin are still north of Punta Mita and ten miles off El Banco to the north. It´s still spring fishing with all those challenges, but when was fishing ever predictable or easy?

Sailfish are pretty much everywhere, but they´ll be picking up in numbers big-time in October. This one is a real beauty, love the coloring and it was released!

I don´t mention too much about Corbeteña and El Banco at this time of the year as these are not cold or cool water locations. By that I mean Marlin, Tuna, Dorado and Sailfish will call this area  home when the water is in the 81 degree mark, until then this area is not known as a producer unless you´re in a El Nino year where water temps will hold warmer, fishing is better, but again this is freak conditions. So you really shouldn´t expect too much from this area until mid June at the earliest. Having said that We´re seeing Striped marlin at or under 200 lbs ten miles north of El Banco. Yes there are jack Crevalls (30 – 50 lbs), Bonito to 35 lbs and a host of other off species. There are Spinner Dolphin from Corbetena to El Banco and normally you´ll find Football tuna running with them. For now this is holding true so there is hope amigos! These Football YF Tuna are chasing squid baits of four inches and they´re abundant. For my thinking with Squids in the area last week I thought we´d see more tuna. If things change for the positive I´ll be sure you have the same information amigo. I will say this Corbeteña has fields of Football Tuna from 15 to 30 lbs, great for bait, but fuel cost is a limiting factor when weighed against the reward. For me, Football Tuna are all over, save the money for now and keep it closer in.

Smoke Your Fish 6 Framed With TextMarietta Islands / El Morro / Punta Mita: Normally at this time of the year this area is alive with Rooster fish, Sailfish and the list goes on. For now we´ve seen less than seasonally expected species. Jack Crevalls in the 35 lb range. Bonito also at 30 lbs, Freak Sailfish and there are massive amounts of Football Tuna from 20 to 45 lbs from El Morro to Yelapa. So you don´t need to head all the way to the islands to find Yellowfin Tuna Footballs, but the area is a good place to start. For now the area is not exactly on fire, but soon we´ll see Sailfish and more so be patient and don´t eat the bait…ha ha. If you´re lucky enough to find Jacks coming up to get Sardines you may just get lucky and find Red Snappers to 25 lbs that follow Jacks up from the bottom to feed. It´s about the only way you´ll find Snapper in the area for now.

Inside the bay we´re still rocking with Jack Crevalls all over the bay, give yourself six hours and you´ll have all the arm burning action you could possibly want. From Yelapa to El Morro you`ll find 30 lb Footballs in mass, not bad tasting I might add. Sailfish are still in the bay and we´ll your chance of boating a Sailfish in the bay are better than any other fishing ground we have in PV. So take this info to the bank and basically fish in the bay on a six hour trip. Remember we can snorkel, fish, tour, the bay is beautiful and the sea life will make your heart skip a beat. For now your best bang for your fishing dollar is once again in the bay.

The bite is still in happening later than you would think even after coming out of a full moon. If you´re looking to be at the right place at the right time the bite is actually happening after 10 a.m and then again at 3:00 in the afternoon. The smart captain will get you in both bites so think about when you´re leaving in the morning. Remember a flat blanket departure of time of 7 am is not helping your cause so be sure you have this information straight or you can be throwing your money away by missing the bite all together. Water temperatures are still inching up and are at the 77 degree mark. Bait Conditions: Well Rapalla lures seem to be your best option, we ran some Hoochies, small rubber baits in line with small hooks and boated many bonito along with Jacks. Run dead baits off your outrigger for the odd Sailfish.

Remember we´re still doing our best to hook you up with partners for shared super panga trips of eight hours for half a panga or two people max. We´re also smoking Your fish, give us half your catch, you´ll get the other half back smoked and vacuum sealed, you don´t have to freeze it to get it home! It´s great for less than tasty fish like Sailfish, Jack Crevalls, Rooster fish and more. Now if you have a Dorado, Snapper or Bonito they´re just outstanding. So call us on the way in, we´ll meet you at the dock and get your details, any company, any boat, just have fish! Or we´ll sell you smoked fish from our fridge. Come in for a free sample!

Until next week, Don´t forget to kiss Your Fish!
