Water Temp Roller Coaster, Fish In/Ou

By now you should be sick and tired of hearing me talk about El Nino, but here we are again. When people learn about El Nino and how it all works, nobody expects conditions to change all at once. When it does change it can be like a ¨Log Jam¨ busting. Two weeks ago the water was 87 degrees, five days later it was 74 degrees, then back up to 80 degrees and now it´s 76 degrees. From these roller coaster fluctuations its toll on fishing. Warm water fish like Marlin, Tuna, Sailfish, and Dorado will run from this cold water and not think twice about it.

Dramatic Increase in Water Temp, Warm Water Species Return, Blue Water

A little better than two weeks ago we had perfect conditions when it comes to fishing. High Visibility Blue Water, perfect water temperatures, plenty of fish and plenty of bait. A combination made in fishing heaven, but that changed quickly with a super frigid current that pushed down the west coast all the way to Mexico. If you remember the cold snap in the news, it all started then. Now I am glad say that the water temperatures that at one time hit 74 degrees are back to 80 degrees and climbing slowly back to where we would like to see them. Yes folks, the scare is over and we now have Wahoo, Wahoo!

It´s Fish City, Bucket List Fish Everywhere!

Ok Folks, what do you want to catch, Yellowfin Tuna, Sailfish, Dorado, Rooster fish, Marlin and Snook at the river mouths finally. Yes, it s ¨Fish City¨ and fishing in PV right now is as good as it´s going to get! Time to break the piggy bank and lie to the little woman if you have to, but get on the water now!

Fish Everywhere, Perfect Conditions!

It´s that time of the year when fishing is not going to get any better than it is now as we enter the thanksgiving and Mexican National Holiday season. Water temperatures, bait conditions / availability, it´s fish city again! Yellowfin Return, Sailfish on tap, Dorado increasing, Marlin, even Rooster fish are all happening now at your favorite fishing grounds amigos, don´t hesitate, just get out there! Blame me if you have too, I can take it!

Yellowfin Tuna Increasing in Numbers, Marlin Abundant, Dorado Surprise

The big surprise this week is the arrival of Dorado! Normally we see them in June or July, May in some years, but this past year has been terrible. Finally we´re seeing some show up around Punta Mita. Where there are some there are surely more in the area. Blue Marlin are picking up in numbers and Black Marlin are also more available. Yellowfin Tuna at El Banco and Corbeteña, life is good!

Roller Coaster Fishing Conditions Continue, Tuna, Sailfish, Marlin Return

Hello everyone and welcome back to another high season. If you live in Vallarta you´re well aware that the humidity has been brutal (but is calming down now). The reason for that is because water temperatures, the single biggest fish catching factor, went from 84 to over 90 in four days. It was a swift and warm current from hell and obliterated fishing. I was having a hard time being positive about people’s chances for boating fish, thankfully I have an improved opinion of your chances. But that´s not to say there aren´t challenges. We have fish, the question is if they´ll take your bait!

Yellowfin Tuna Turn Up At El Banco Today, Tomorrow Who Knows?

People think that when and El Nino ends that everything is going to return to normal and the fishing will be incredible. Well that´s not exactly correct. When we see the currents swirling with warm water, then cold water we know there are going to be challenges to fishing. After an El Nino the following year, primarily summer is a bag of frustration. Right now one day the fishing is world class. The next day the fishing fleet gets word of this and BAM, no fish for love or money! The next day, who knows, it´s challenging for sure. The fish are out there, the only question is can you get them to take your bait!

Porpoise Return to Corbeteña, Sailfish in the Bay

We´re seeing some large Blue and Black Marlin at Corbeteña, Not El Banco. Bait is moving into the area like crazy in the form of three inch Sardines which of course attract Rooster fish so cross your fingers. All and all the fishing could be better, but you can always say that. If you´re targeting Blue Marlin and Black Marlin you are in the right place. Yellowfin Tuna will be moving in shortly as water temperatures drop north of the border. Patience prevails, just make sure your tank is full!

Roll the Dice Fishing, They`re out there, Felling Lucky?

We´re seeing streaky, Hot / Cold fishing, one day it´s great, next day it´s a fish ghost town. October is the beginning of the highest part of fishing high season so to me this is a little disappointing, but not shocking. It´s also the time of the year we see currents start to change and we´re seeing signs of this as well. Dirty water in the bay is a great indicator when it´s not from rain. So currents are stirring up the muck and sentiment sitting on the bottom of the bay. Just past La Cruz Marina the water turns to clear green water, another indication currents are changing. Clean Green water as Capt Cesar calls it isn´t an issue, but it is cool water. But four miles past the point off Punta Mita is High Visibility Blue Water so the bay is mixed up.

Blue Water, Dorado, Marlin, Sailfish and Football Tuna

Right after I wrote last week’s report things flipped for the better. The ¨Clean Green water we´ve had for the last weeks is not gone. Blue water has returned to the area and we´re seeing an increase in Dorado in both numbers and locations. Marlin are still the main game fish out there, but they´re out there! Yellowfin around El Banco but they´re Footballs of 60 lbs. We have fish and they´re hungry for your bait amigo. High Season for fishing has finally kicked in big time so get your butt to PV and join the fun!
